This preserve is a wonderful way spend some time amongst nature without having to leave the island, and would be perfect to burn off some calories after a big lunch, or entertain the kids between events. It’s small enough to be manageable, but still offers plenty to see and do when the weather is nice.

The plantation is situated in a small slice land similar to a park, surrounded by beautiful modern homes. It would be really easy to drive right by it, and not even know what the trees concealed!

I never tire of exploring old cemeteries, and trying to uncover the stories of those within.

There are other beautiful pieces of art around the island, but I think this one was my absolute favorite.

I can’t recommend the Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge enough to anyone visiting Hilton Head – it’s a wonderful way to escape the hustle and bustle of the boardwalk and find solitude and peace in the wild wetlands.

Mitchelville Freedom Park honors the first self-governed town of formerly enslaved people, established in 1862.

If you’ve got some time to spare and would like an afternoon of exploration, the Coastal Discovery Museum should definitely be on your list!
